Sammy Hagar turns 77 today. Some people seem to be perpetually young and Sammy is one of them. Know why? Because he is truly appreciative of everything that has happened in his life. And what a life it’s been.
Why is Sammy more appreciative than other rock singers? His family worked in the lettuce fields and he lived with his parents and three siblings in a labor camp. His dad, Bobby, was a serious alcoholic and, for many years, held the record for most times being knocked down in a single boxing match, 20. So, no silver spoon for Sam. Not even a copper spoon.
Sammy has given us endless hours of quality rock, first with one of my favorite bands, Montrose, and then with one of my other favorite bands, Van Halen. He made oodles of millions with Cabo Wabo tequila and still puts on a show to equal anyone out there. Oh, and he does this all with a shit-eating grin that never falters. Sammy has lived the best of both worlds.
Happy birthday to a rocker for the ages.
